Knights of Columbus- Homestead, FL

We are Bishop Gilberto Fernandez Knights of Columbus Council #4998. Our council serves the Homestead, Florida area. Our business meetings are every 2nd Monday of the month and our socials are every 4th of the month at 6:30pm in the parish hall. Some of the activities our council participate in/organize are: pro-life marches, Habitat for Humanity building, monthly speaker at our social meetings, Ordination receptions, adopt a seminarian, and monthly breakfast for our parishioners. One of the virtues of being a Knight is charity, and yearly we have a St. Patty’s Day Dinner which helps us raise funds to help those who are least among our brothers. Bishop Fernandez was once pastor at Sacred Heart Church.  In 2012, our council was renamed in honor of him.  Bishop Fernandez represented all the virtues the Knights strive for.

Lenten Fish Fry

On the Fridays of Lent, Brothers Knights for Council 4998 served our parishioners a Fried Fish dinner inclusive of fish, hush puppies, egg rolls, and coleslaw. Much of the proceeds from the Fish Fry will be earmarked for our local chapter of St. Vincent de Paul. Thank you to all of those who donated their money, time, and talent to make this a successful event in its first year.  Thanks to the generosity of our Sacred Heart parishioners and the efforts of many Knights we recently presented a check for $1000 to the St. Vincent de Paul society.

Easter Egg Hunt

On Easter Sunday, 2023, Council 4998 sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of Sacred Heart parish.  It was a great turnout and the first time since 2019 the event was held. Covid restrictions caused the event to be cancelled in 2020, 21, and 22.  Children and their parents, family and friends had a great time.  We really appreciated the help from all, setting up the hunt area, hiding the eggs, running the egg hunts
and cleaning up after both hunts.  Jesus is Risen!  He is risen indeed.

Knights on Bikes

On Sunday January 29, 2023, Brothers Daniel Toledo and Aaron Rodreguez volunteered in Archbishop Thomas Wenski’s Mass and Ride which stared with a mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Doral and ended in the parking lot of Peterson's Harley Davidson in Culter Bay. What a great event to raise money for St. Luke's Center.

NASCAR Weekend->Dollars for Council

On the weekend of October 23rd several council members volunteered their time to raise money for the council. A big thanks to Emilo Morales who led the effort. Brothers transported race fans to and from their vehicles and earned the council several hundred dollars. Thank you, Emilo, Randolph Brown, Kevin Lewis, Chuck Roessner, Edwin Villanueva, and Mike Roura

Brothers join Father Joseph for Trinity Sunday

On the weekend of June 12, 2022, several of your fellow brothers made the short trip down to Christ the King in Perrine to celebrate Blessed Trinity Sunday. It was also a celebration for Father Joseph who left Sacred Heart Homestead at the start of June to become the lead pastor of Christ the King.
Brothers Emilio Morales, Damian Teixeira, Grand Knight Randolph Browne, and past Grand Knight Chuck Roessner led the procession into and out of the church. It was great to see Father Joseph and take part in this special Mass. With God's grace, we hope a vibrant council will form at Christ the King in the years to come.

Council 4998 Donates $500 to Seminarian in Need

In January 2023, our council, 4998, donated $500 to a seminarian. Jude Chinedum Ogbonnaya is a seminarian thousands of miles away in Nigeria, Africa. We continue to pray for Jude and all men called in this special way to serve the Lord.
